FR Cette pièce présente des formes naissantes et évanescentes révélées par une surface sensible. Quelque chose rappelle la photographie mais ici l’image ne se fixe jamais. Et bien que quelque chose s’anime sous nos yeux, nous ne sommes pas non plus dans l’image en mouvement. A proprement parler, il n’y a d’ailleurs aucune image ; ce que l’écran thermosensible nous montre est une empreinte thermique éphémère.
Dans l’industrie, l’encre thermochrome est utilisée à des fins de contrôle et de traçabilité des produits ; indicateur témoin dans la chaîne du froid et le transport de produits médicaux, cartographie thermique, surchauffe de processus industriels… elle sert à pointer ou identifier un dysfonctionnement, une rupture, une faille.
Détournée de son usage premier, elle devient ici une chimie permettant de rejouer indéfiniment la révélation photographique. Déterminées par des conditions spécifiques et changeantes, l’existence des formes qui surgissent n’est que transitoire. Ce destin était aussi celui des premières photographies que l’oxydation des sels d’argent vouait à un obscurcissement certain, véritables apparitions disparaissantes.
EN This series is about emerging and fading shapes which are revealed by a sensitive surface. Something recalls photography, but the image here never stabilizes. And whereas forms come to life before our eyes, they are not strictly speaking images in motion either. In fact, there is no image at all. What the thermosensitive screen shows us is but an ephemeral thermal print, in a constant flux of appearing and disappearing.
In industry, thermochrome ink is used for product control and traceability purposes; as a control indicator in the cold chain and the transport of medical products, thermal mapping, overheating of industrial processes… it serves to point out or identify a malfunction, a rupture or a fault.
Turned away from its original use, it becomes a chemistry that allows to replay photographic revelation indefinitely. Determined by specific and changing conditions, the existence of the forms that arise is only transitory. The first photographs were subjected to the same fate, for the oxidation of the silver salts led to an unavoidable darkening, a genuine 'disappearing apparition'.
